Meme, Meme, Meme, Meme

I was tagged on Facebook to do this meme.  I've been managing to avoid these things for a while, now, but I cannot ignore on in which I am directly tagged.  I can, however, bend the rules a little and not post it on Facebook or tag anyone into the madness.  If you're keen, have a go and post where you put it in the comments and I'll come have a looky.

Three Things

Three names people call me: I'm guessing nice ones are in order so...hmm...Kyd, Flower, and Mommy.

Three places I've lived: Misery, Confusion...oh, wait...Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Florida

Three places I have worked: Work? Me? Hmm...At a Montessori school (teacher), Michael's (framer), and Denny's (world's worst Denny's waitress).

Three shows I love to watch: No TV right now, but I WAS fond of Man vs Food, Dirty Jobs, and Any of the Blue Planet/Planet Earth type shows on Discovery.

Three places I have been: Hell (and back). Okay, really...hmm...Bunker Hill, Kennesaw Mountain, and Normandy.

Three things I love to eat: Food, food, and more food. What??

Three things I look forward to: Having the Internet back some day, being able to pay bills without wondering if it means going without toilet paper, shampoo, or cat food.

Three people I get regular e-mails from: Mum, Kerri, and Rachel.

Three places I want to go: Australia, Ireland, and Hawaii.

Feel free to take a turn...

I Am From

I am from blue jeans worn thin at the knees, ragged at the cuffs, dirt and grass stained, faded from indigo to near-grey, from Marshmallow Fluff and peanut butter sandwiches and long summer days at the beach beneath the hammered-bronze sun.

I am from the woods and shores of New England, clammy, foggy mornings redolent of salt and seaweed.

I am from the beach plum in hidden places, the sugar maple's blazing Autumn glory.

I am from lobstering and clam boils, stubbornness and fire, from Papa and Mum, Spousie and Dad, madness (Mary Todd Lincoln) and prose (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow).

I am from sailors and lawyers, artists and musicians.

From "Sit up straight!" and "Suck in your gut".

I am from "God is a nameless stranger in the sky who we pay lip service to a few times a year" and "If you don't donate money, you're not a good Christian" and "There is no God" and much later "the Earth is my religion, my church".

I'm from many places, from Lloyd, Mason, and McRae, from swordfish and Jell-O.

From landing on Watupa Pond and losing a pilot's license, burning down the yacht club, and feeding a pig Ex-Lax before releasing it in a spiteful woman's house while she was away. I am from sailing ships, the Coast Guard, the Air Force, from sailors, fishermen, a silversmith, wealth and poverty.

I am from stairwells hung with massive oil paintings, stern faces watching up,down, transitory wanderings, from sun-filled niches and pastel softness, slight smiles and a face the was my great-aunt, but not, cheap silver frames around fading copies of old black-and-white prints and square photos turning sepia in forgotten albums. I am from attics and shoe boxes and the brass bed that has dulled with time but shines in memory.

I am from Zippo lighters, fine china, sterling silver, and champagne, from horses and tennis and sailing, from bologna and Kraft dinners and throw-the-leftovers-in-the-crock-pot, from fishing for crab, digging clams, shucking corn, digging potatoes, gleaning peas from their pods and moldy cheese. I am from England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, from the United States of America, from places long gone save for my recollection of them, from nobility, statesmen, Gypsies, horse thieves.

I am the sum my ancestry, from long lines dating back to the beginning, diverging, rejoining, from past, present future. I am from primordial ooze and the song of the stars. I am from here and now...and I am where tomorrow comes from...

Twenty Things That Nurture Me

Got this from Braja. Check her out (as if you don't already know her blog!)(and if you don't, what are you, living under a rock?? She's a blogging rock star, fer cryin' out loud!!)(No, really, she's at least eight kinds of awesome on a regular basis).

Blue - shades and shades of blue, from palest sky to deepest Atlantic. Contrary to what the psychology world claims, blue does not depress me..it calms, soothes, and even uplifts my spirit.

Music - I love making music for and with others. Drumming and singing together around a fire at night is magic in itself. In music I find peace, power, solace, joy, and connection.

Photography - capturing the world in still frames and showing my often skewed vision to others, sharing moments frozen in time, is a real pleasure.

Fabric - I have a stash of fabric that make my mouth water - colors, textures, patterns, things that literally made me drool. Some of them are grouped together to one day become...something. Some are simply pieces waiting to become...something else. I especially love cotton.

Water - drinking, bathing, swimming...water is a thing of nurturing for me. When I am ill, it's water I want, and no other medicine will quite do.

Moonlight - cool, blue-silver, gentle, her light casts shadows and brings strange life to things...and I love being out beneath her, soaking it all in.

Sunlight - warm, golden, pouring down in honeyed streams...since childhood I have loved the scent of sun-warmed skin.

Earth - rich, heady perfume rolls up from newly turned garden beds, and I breathe it in and am drunk from it. To bury my fingers in her, set seeds to root and grow, is an act of hope, a gift given and received.

Snow - cold, clean, whit, soft, hard, ever changing, ever different.

Someone and the Evil Genius - playing baseball on the driveway, throwing darts in the garage, teasing Rook, playing chess, gardening...there is something tremendously satisfying in watching two people I love being happy together.

Reading - I have had no more faithful, no truer friends follow me from childhood to today than books. I still have many from when I was young.

Cats - furry little contradictions, the wee darlings.

Flowing Water - the sound is a song that I will one learn to sing. I steep myself in that subtle music and am timeless.

Fire - fire runs in my family; we like to burn things. There are two rules of fire here at Casa de Crazy: Fire is always hungry, and fire is never safe. The crackling tune is a counterpoint to flowing water and blowing wind, earth's drums keeping time to it all.

Rain - the smell, the feel, of a summer's rain soaking through my clothes to my skin...sweet...

Flute - I can play or listen for hours.

Singing Bowl - mine is quite large, made of crushed quartz. It has a chip in it but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I will coax it into song, then plunge my head down into the bowl and feel the sound pulsing through me...ahh...

Words - well written, well spoken, well crafted words. Playful, charming, painful, sweet, I've never met a words I couldn't love.

Ancient Evenings Lotion - perhaps a bit shallow, but the smell makes me smile and it does keep my poor abused hands soft and smooth.

Seeds - little bundles of potential, hopes and dreams in tiny hulled packages.

Getting To Know Meme...er...Youm...er...

...it's a meme I got in my e-mail and couldn't ignore...sigh. I did this earlier in the week by e-mail to a few unfortunate souls and figured I'd torture share the fun with you. Play along or don't, it's all good.
~~~~~
1. What is your occupation right now ?
I'm not employed traditionally. I'm a writer, musician, photographer, and a Mum. I don't get paid much of anything for the first three, but the last one comes with all the hugs I can handle.
2. What colour are your socks right now?
Socks? What socks? If I was wearing some, they'd likely be the mismatched blue, recycled cotton ones...or the stripey, fuzzy blue ones. But, no socks.
3. What are you listening to right now?
The Evil Genius making a soundtrack for the incomprehensible game he's playing on the living room floor, and the thoughts thundering around inside my head.
4. Last thing you ate?
A cheese and crockpot-roast quesadilla.
5. Can you drive a manual car?
Alas, no.
6. Last person you spoke to on the phone?
Mum.
7. Do you like the person who sent this to you?
I'm right fond of her.
8. How old are you today?
Old, old, old...years beyond counting and worn down by time. Or 37. Take your pick.
9. What is your favourite sport to watch on TV?
Hockey, at the moment.
10. What is your favourite drink?
Water.
11. Have you ever dyed your hair?
Yep.
12. Favourite food?
As an Aquarius, I reserve the right not to choose a favorite. We're like that.
13. What is the last movie you watched?
Backdraft, here at home with Someone.
14. Favourite day of the year?
Again with the whole Aquarius thing...although I like the idea of "today" being my favorite.
15. How do you vent anger?
Depends - sometimes I get quiet and internalize it, process it, get over it...and sometimes I bitch and moan and get loud...and sometimes I write it out...and sometimes I cry. Whatever suits in the moment.
16. What was your favourite toy as a child?
Nature.
17. What is your favourite season?
Autumn, when Summer bows his head and asks Nature for one last dance in her crimson finery, the air is crisp and clean, and I can go outside without worrying about boob sweat.
18. Cherries or Blueberries?
Both, thank you.
19. Do you want your friends to e-mail you back?
It would be nice, but I won't be crushed if they don't. I don't like manipulative questions like this.
20. Who is the most likely to respond?
Surprise me.
21. Who is least likely to respond?
No idea.
22. Living arrangements?
A little crowded, a little messy, a little chaotic, a lot of love.
23. When was the last time you cried?
A little while ago.
24. What is on the floor of your closet?
Floor...and some shoes...and a whole herd of fuzzy animal slippers.
25. Who is the friend you have had the longest that you are sending to?
Technically Mum, since I've known her my whole life and we're friends...but for the not-related-by-blood type, K.
26. What did you do last night ?
Watched hockey, watched Someone and the Evil Genius play chess, laughed, cried, contemplated my mortality and came out the other side of a particularly dark patch roughly intact. And then I saved the world from certain destruction. So...more of the same, really.
27. What are you most afraid of
Failing my child.
28. Plain, cheese, or spicy hamburgers?
Cheese all the way, sometimes with avocado on because my fat cells get lonely and want more neighbors.
29. Favourite dog breed?
Well behaved.
30. Favourite day of the week?
What day is it?
31. How many states have you lived in?
Excluding confusion, misery, disarray and panic? Six.
32. Diamonds or pearls?
Sapphires.
33. What is your favourite flower?
I love the morning glories that bloom deep blue on the front porch - how they greet the day with trumpet blasts of color and determination to reach ever higher; and I adore the sunflowers that turn their heads to follow Papa sun through the day, grinning at him and blazing back with all their joy; and the deep velvet richness of the blue, purple, and black Iris in the front bed that invite errant fingers to stroke their soft petals...so...no favorite. I'll love them all, thank you.
The End of Meme
OK, not really...but it IS an end of the year Meme, anyway. Play along, kids - it's nutritional and fun!
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before? Got Divorced.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I didn't make any...and no, I won't.
3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve? I have no idea - probab;y going to Borders with my guys, maybe dinner after...or maybe just come home after, because do I really want to go to Friday's on New Year's Eve? Not so much...
4. Did anyone close to you die? If the question refers to proximity, then no. If it means someone to whom I am emotionally close...my Aunt passed through the veil and I was saddened, although we were not especially close.
5. What countries did you visit? Via the Blue Nowhere: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, South Africa, Portugal, Tasmania, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, France, Germany, Russia...and a few more. In reality: None.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009? Copious amounts of cash.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Friday, May 8. I was standing beneath the full moon feeling as lonely as I'd ever been, and I went inside and wrote what I was feeling...a piece that turned out to be a call of sorts that drew Someone into my life. It was also the day I knew without a doubt that my marriage was over.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Although I know it is an odd choice, and likely won't reflect well on me I have to say...my divorce. I made a hard choice, one that was geared toward my spiritual and emotional needs, one that hurt but ultimately was what needed to be done.
9. What was your biggest failure? Hmm...I don't know...I have failed spectacularly at so many things...
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I broke my pinkie toe in September and it STILL hurts!
11. What was the best thing you bought? My trip to Houston.
12. Where did most of your money go? Bills.
13. What song will always remind you of 2009? Just Breathe, Pearl Jam.
14. What do you wish you'd done more of? Breathed deep and found my roots.
15. What do you wish you'd done less of? Wept. Hurt. Felt lonely.
16. What was your favourite TV program? Dirty Jobs, I think...
17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? No. I no longer love someone as I once did, but I don't hate. Hatred is a waste of energy.
18. What was the best book you read? No best...I loved them all.
19. What was your greatest musical discovery? Aside from Someone and his Song? I'd say it's a tossup between Medieval Babes and the Ragbirds.
20. What was your favorite film of this year? I don't have one...can't even recall seeing one in the theater, although I know I did.
21. What did you do on your birthday? Felt ignored by some and loved by others, par for the day.
22. What kept you sane? I'm sane???
23. Who did you miss? My grandfather, despite his being dead for decades.
24. Who was the best new person you met? Someone.
25. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009: Sometimes the right choice is the hardest one to make.
Is It Just Meme...?
...or have I been doing a lot of these lately?
~~~~~
1. What was the last thing you put in your mouth? Oh, so many snarky answers flitted through my brain for this...but I'll play both nice and fair. My toothbrush.

2. Where was your profile picture taken? On my front porch, of one of my beloved morning glories. That particular shade doesn't grow any more, and I haven't been able to find more seeds, so the photo is all that remains.

3. Can you play Guitar Hero? Not very well. I can play almost anything poorly, though, as I suspect most people can.

4. Name someone who made you laugh today. What was it about? That someone would be Someone, and I could tell you but I don't think I will. My mother reads this blog.

5. How late did you stay up last night and why? A bit past two-thirty, because I don't sleep very well of late. I am insomnia's bitch, it seems.

6. If you could move somewhere else where would you and why? I can move somewhere else if I choose. It's still a (somewhat) free country, and the world is getting smaller every day. I would move to Maine, or New Hampshire, or Martha's Vineyard, or Arizona or Missouri, or Oregon, or Alaska, or North Georgia, or Scotland (far from cities) or Ireland (some small town or on the coast) or New Zealand, or anywhere with mountains, or snow, or the sea, or a clear night sky, or forest, or free flowing water...because I love beautiful, wild places where humans haven't had much opportunity to muck things up and I don't like living in crowded places where people can bother me when I'd rather be alone. As long as I had the Blue Nowhere, I'd be fine wherever I came to light.

7. Ever been kissed under fireworks? Can't say that I have. Sounds dangerous.

8. Which of your friends lives closest to you? Hmm...I think that would be Gypsy, although it could be Kit - they're almost equidistant and it takes about the same amount of time to drive to their homes... Of course, my friend K is always in my heart, so that's closer still...

9. Do you believe ex's can be friends? With benefits? I believe that people can find their relationships evolving and adjust accordingly. I believe that a relationship can end one incarnation and begin another, and that all parties involved can remain friendly if they can let go of negative feelings. I believe that people can continue to have sexual contact without any other ties, as long as they're clear about boundaries. I also believe it's not often plausible to continue a physical relationship with an ex, and sometimes it's downright unwise.

10. Do you like Dr. Pepper? On rare occasions, and usually cut with a little Coca-Cola because otherwise it's too pungent. Also, there must be a great deal of ice.

11. When was the last time you cried really hard? Really hard as opposed to just sniveling? Hmm...last night.

12. Who took your profile picture? I did.

13. Who was the last person you took a picture of? The Evil Genius. Unless you count Flat Aunt Becky (post about her coming in the next day or two).

14. Was yesterday better than today? Why? No. Most of my days are much of a muchness...but they improve slightly because each day that passes is one less day awaiting Someone's return to Casa de Crazy.

15. Can you live a day without TV? I can live days, weeks, and moths without television, and have done. As much as I adore my programs - they are filler, a way to pass otherwise empty time. Because I watch National Geographic and the Discovery family of channels for the most part, at least I'm learning something...but it's still filler. Also...I have TiVo, so, you know...I can always watch later.

16. Are you upset about anything now? The usual suspects - namely, my apparent inability to grasp whatever simple thing most other people grasp that lets them get along in and succeed in the workaday world.

17. Do you think relationships are ever really worth it? Yes, even the failed ones. They all have their moments of brilliance and of shadow, and I appreciate those moment equally.

18. Are you a bad influence? I'd like to think so.

19. Night out or night in? Both.

20. What items could you not go without during the day? Oxygen is right up there...

21. Who was the last person you visited in the hospital? Oh, hmm...I can't recall...although I suspect it may have been Gypsy when she had just had Mouse. Unless you count my trip last summer with the Evil Genius to the ER.

22. What does the last text message in your inbox say? I don't know - I don't text.

23. How do you feel about your life right now? It has good points and bad points. They are about even, although I'm happier than usual so that's nice...

24. Do you hate anyone? Nope. Hatred is a waste.

25. If we were to look in your Facebook inbox, what would we find? I have a Facebook inbox? I have no idea what's in it. The Internet version of dust bunnies?? Also...who's "we"?

26. Say you were given a drug test right now, would you pass? I don't test well...but yes...

27. Has anyone ever called you perfect before? Hah! Hahahah...ahhh....hahahah....whew...

28. What song is stuck in your head? Tonight it's After the Goldrush by Neil Young, thanks to BHJ and his blog post today.

29. Someone knocks on your window at 2 a.m., whom do you want it to be? It had better be Superman or some other flying person, as my window is two storeys up!

30. Do you (or did you) want to have grandkids before you’re 50? No. The Evil Genius will only be nineteen, and unless he wants to have children at that young age and is prepared for all they entail, I hope he will not be helping to produce them. I am presuming that I will have raised him well enough that he understands when you help make one, you help raise it. If you aren't ready to take responsibility, then you either use birth control or you don't have sex. That's how I feel about it in a nutshell, anyway.

31. Tell us your Saturday night. Same as any other night - make dinner, play with/teach/read to Evil Genius, tidy kitchen, put Evil Genius to bed, talk to Someone on the phone, hang out in the Blue Nowhere, write, go to bed. Whee.

32. Do you think too much or too little? Probably too much. I think...

33. Do you smile a lot? More and more, lately.

Friday, November 13, 2009

28. Would you strip for money? I think it's more likely I'd be paid not to undress, or to put my clothing back on.

You Can Dress Meme Up...

I have a house guest and am preparing for a major holiday, so once again I am leaning on a meme for a post. Whatever you're doing tomorrow, I hope it's happy, safe, and a good time for all involved!
~~~~~
The Halloween Meme
1. What is your favorite written work of horror fiction? Umm...I don't know about that, since I don't really read horror...but I am rather fond of Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas books, and many of his more recent works, as well - do those count?
2. What is your favorite work of science fiction/fantasy? Oh, wow...ask me my favorite oxygen molecule and you'll more likely get an answer. Umm...Heinlein is a favorite, and Mercedes Lackey, Flynn Connolly, Larry Niven, Starhawk, Piers Anthony, Neal Stephenson, Simon R. Green, Jim Butcher, Orson Scott Card, Anne McCaffrey...and I just know I'm forgetting some...
3. Who is your favorite monster? Hmm...I rather like Frankenstein's monster, because he was such a tragic creature. I also like the critters in the Species movies, because they're freakin' heinous! Or would those be aliens? I am also rather fond of Snortimer, the monster under the bed, too.
4. What is your favorite Horror movie? Would you believe I've never seen one? bits of them, yes, but they bore me to pieces, so I don't tend to watch them.
5. What horror movie gives you the most chills? Again, I don't watch them, really, and the little I've seen never frightened me at all...just made me wonder what people were thinking, writing things like that.
6. What character from any horror film would you most like to play? Hmm. Eve, from Species 2, even though I am fairly certain that's not really a horror movie.
7. Freddy or Jason? The only Fred I know is Captain Martini from the track, and the only Jason I know was a very nice young man I went to school with entirely too long ago, so, umm...both??*
8. What is your favorite Halloween treat? I miss caramel apples. And popcorn balls. These days, even candy corn is rather sad, unless you get Brach's (made with real honey!). I don't have a modern favourite.
9. Ghosts or goblins? Elves and fairies, thanks.
10. Friendly-faced jack-o'-lantern or scary one? I like both, as well as those fancy scenic ones you can do with the paper patterns. Last year and this, I am more drawn to more traditional faces, though.
11. What is your scariest encounter with the paranormal? Never had a scary one. Honestly, I grew up in a haunted house where the ghost wanted nothing to do with me. He haunted everyone else, but not me. It was so unfair!!
12. Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not? Yep. Because too many people have had experiences that don't fit into any other rational explanation.
13. Would you rather be a zombie, alien, or psycho? Umm...Alien, if it's Eve from Species 2. Seriously - she's a hottie, smart, psychic, a hottie, fierce, and a hottie.
14. Favorite Halloween costume? You know...I remember having store-bought costumes when I was little...but otherwise am really drawing a blank. I suck at costumes. Really. These days I wear my own clothing and tell people I'm a witch...and like serial killers, we dress like everyone else.
15. Best thing about Halloween? Roasted pumpkin seeds. Oh, yeah, and family and friends hanging out, laughing, having a good time telling ghost stories and remembering our dear departed.
16. Person in your family who most likes Halloween (not counting yourself)? Hmm. I would think my son likes it, but he's only just getting into it. mum's fond of it, too. I dunno...
17. Are you superstitious? Yes. Yes I am.
18. Share an unusual Halloween story. Umm...I don't have one...
19. What did you do for Halloween as a kid? Went trick-or-treating, or sometimes to parties. Played Barn Door (a variant of hide and seek played at night with teams).
20. What's the best Halloween party that you've attended? I don't know that I've been to any as an adult...but as a kid, sometimes we'd go to one at The Stone House in Little Compton. It was fun...I remember costume contests, bobbing for apples, and pinatas...
So...how 'bout you??
*No, I'm not that stupid or socially retarded, I know what the question meant...I'm funnin' ya because I didn't want to be boring and say "I don't watch those movies..." again.
Bear With Meme
I'm working at the track this weekend, long days in the communications tower with a very nice woman who smokes like an industrial chimney, so my mind and body are being taxed. I don't have it in me to write anything interesting or original, so...it's time for another meme.
~~~~~

1. Is there anybody you just wish would fall off the planet? Wouldn't that be flying? Or does flying mean they'd come back down eventually? And how would someone fall off, any way? Doesn't there have to be an edge or promontory or something, to fall from? Or, if one person can fall off, wouldn't we all, because wouldn't that mean cessation of gravity? In which case we'd all have one heck of a ride...

2. How do you flush the toilet in public? I don't use the toilet in public - I'm not an exhibitionist. However, I flush a public toilet carefully, just as I would at home, by using the handle, lever, or button provided on the apparatus. Sometimes they flush themselves...it's spooky...how do they know I'm done? Sometimes they flush before I'm ready...disconcerting, that...because I almost always have a wet bum and the feeling that the potty is trying to hurry me along...which leads to a host of thoughts about inanimate objects being alive, and if they had Karma, what did the toilet do to deserve its job?

3. Do you wear your seatbelt in the car? Well, it matches my shoes so nicely...

4. Do you have a crush on someone? No. I find crushing people to be so messy. I love Someone, though...

5. Name one thing you worry about running out of. Time.

6. What famous person do you (or other people) think you resemble? I don't think I look like anyone famous, but someone once told me I look like that actress in that show about the legal firm...I don't think it was LA Law...it was popular a few years ago...she's a big woman...aww, Hell...never mind...I don't look like anyone famous.

7. What is your favourite pizza topping? Pizza.

8.Do you crack your knuckles? Well...it would be rude to crack someone else's...

9. What song do you hate the most? Anything sung by that horrid purple dinosaur.

10. Did just mentioning that song make it get stuck in your head? Nope.

11. What are your super powers? Mom's kiss - it can make anything all better.

12. Peppermint or spearmint? Wintergreen.

13. Where are your car keys? On a key ring. I'd tell you where that is, but then maybe you'd come to Casa de Crazy and steal my van...

14. Last song you listened to? Karma Slave.

15. What's your most annoying habit? I don't have just one, and many of them are annoying to one degree or another.

16. Where did you last go on vacation? Houston Texas...yeehaw, y'all.

17. What is your best physical feature? I'm bendy.

18. What CD is closest to you right now? The Ragbirds, Wanderlove.

19. What 3 things can always be found in your refrigerator? Pickles, some sort of cheese, and fruit.

20. What superstition do you believe/practice? Hello, I'm a witch...

21. What colour are your bed sheets? Blue.

22. Would you rather be a fish or a bird? Phoenix.

23. Last thing you broke? The side-view mirror on my van.

24. What are you having to eat tonight? I don't know...something healthy, I hope, especially if I really want to be rid of the remaining forty acres of my ass.

25. What colour shirt are you wearing? Blue.

26. If you could be doing anything else today, what would you rather be doing? Umm...well...nothing I feel like sharing publicly...

27. Do security cameras make you nervous? Nope.

28. If you wrote a book about your life, what would the title be? Yawn.

29. Last time you went to a cemetery? Hmm...I think last fall in Clarkesville...

30. Last concert you went to? I'm guessing this means attended and not performed...and I think that would be the Aerosmith/Cheap Trick concert a few years back...unless the Ragbirds counts, although I performed at that same event, so I'm not sure...

31. Favourite musician(s)/bands you've seen in concert? Sorry, can't name just one. Ragbirds, Kellianna, Sting, The Moody Blues, Bonnie Raitt...

32. Next concert you're planning to attend? No plans just now...unless performing counts, and then I am hoping there's one next spring...

33. Do you talk to yourself? Often. Sometimes it's the only somewhat adult conversation I have for days...

34. Have you ever adopted or purchased a pet? No. They adopt me.

35. Have you ever been present when an animal is being born? I'll go one better - I've reached inside the mum and pulled the baby out when it was stuck. Two words: texture fiesta.

Give Meme a Break

So much to do...

I have nine days to get my house from a wreck to nice enough for visitors. OK...for one particular visitor, because I'd like it to look a bit less like a barn inhabited by rabid raccoons when Someone is here, ya know??? Also, next weekend I'm taking part in a multi-family yard sale, part of which is to help benefit a young woman who needs help paying legal fees so she can get her children away from an abusive ex-husband and into a healthy environment. So I'm taking the easy way out today and posting another dang meme. Aren't you lucky?

Got it from that Sunday Stealing site, natch.
~~~~~
Tell Meme More
I'm tired (still not sleeping much or well), I've pulled a muscle in my neck (I prefer to think it's because I have been doing heavy lifting and cleaning in the house rather than that I may have pulled it playing Frisbee with the Evil Genius because how embarrassing would that be??) and I'm drawing a blank (938 posts in under 22 months means one is bound to run dry once in a while)...so...another meme! I have been sitting on this for a while, and now I can't recall where I found it, although it's likely I stole it from Sunday Stealing for just such an occasion.
~~~~~

1. When you go to Wowmart, what one thing do you get every single time, besides a funky-wheeled squeaking cart full of frustration? A headache.

2. What is something that people are currently “into” that you just don’t get or appreciate? Nipple piercing. Seriously, I will let a stranger pierces my skin thousands of times with a bundle of inked needles for a tattoo...but nipple piercing? Not so much. Hurst just to think about it!

3. What is something that really hoists your sail that other people might feel “ho-hum” about? Apostrophe abuse. Won't somebody please stop the horror?

4. Favorite song to sing in the shower or car? Whatever I'm currently writing/working on/polishing up for performance. Or whatever is playing in the moment. I love to sing, whatever the song.

5. A really great salad must have this ingredient: Me, eating it.

6. What advice in a nutshell would you give to new bloggers? Write with your own voice and give credit when you find fodder on another blog. Although how they'd read it if it was in a nutshell is beyond me. I'd have to write really small...

7. What was the alternate name that your parents almost named you? Do you wish they had chosen it instead of the one they gave you? There wasn't one. I used to wish they'd named me Katherine, but now I get too much fun out of my name to change it. If you know me and know my real name, you'll understand why - if not, trust me, it's hilarious.

8. What in your life are you waiting for? Waiting seems so passive - I'd rather be working toward a goal. That said, I AM waiting for Someone...waiting and hoping. I am also waiting to hear back from an agent (any agent) who thinks my writing is not only not crap, it may be worth representing. And waiting to win the lottery. Wonder which will happen first?

9. You get a package in the mail. What is it, and who is it from? A large bundle of cash from Bill Gates, because he loves my blog and doesn't want me distracted from writing it by such trifling things as bills and the need to feed my family.

10. Today–what song represents you? Hmm...I don't really know. I don't listen to much of today's music. Anyone have any suggestions?

11. What is one thing that blogging has taught you about yourself? Everything is a story waiting to be told.

12. How are you going to (or how did you) choose the clothes you’re wearing today?What do they say about you in general or specifically how you’re feeling today? I put on whatever is on top of the stack in the drawer. My clothing is about being comfortable, plain and simple. It may convey my fondness for the color blue...

Fall for Meme

Well...actually...it's a meme for Fall that I ganked from that Sunday Stealing site. Play along if you like. Or not. I'm still cleaning house, and will be for a long time - there's so much crap in this cracker box, it's a little overwhelming.
~~~~~
It’s not really fall until... It's not really Fall until the air takes on that crisp, leaf loamy quality; that hint of frost and clarity; the touch of the wind stroking my face as it plucks leaves from the topmost branches and sets them drifting on their downward course; the scent of crimson and gold that tells me the season is turning.
What did you need to do in the waning days of summer for it to feel complete? Clean my house, top to bottom, rid it of the canned-air flavour of the A/C, sweep away the dust, the dirt, the grass and stones and twigs tracked in by weary feet and left in neglected corners.
A person I know was wrong for me but about whom I frequently thought after a break-up was... This presumes I dated or had serious relationships before I married...which I did not. I am now divorced and worry for my ex-husband's well-being...but I don't think that answers the spirit of the question. I was attracted to several people before I met my ex...and I still think fondly of one of them and wish him well. He was absolutely wrong for me, and it's just as well we were never together to begin with.
If you could only attend one major sporting event what would it be? Only one in my life? Hmm...I don't know. The Paris-Dakar rally would be awesome...but so would a number of horse races and a few sailing races. And then there's soccer, and hockey, and winter sports. I can't really think of any one that would choose over all others as my only event. Hey, how about the first Olympics? That'd be epic...
Assuming that you write an anonymous or partially anonymous blog, by what non-physically identifying characteristics might you be identified in a bar? This is a partially anonymous blog - except for one old photo of me buried in the archives (don't bother, I don't look like that any more anyway) and some recent pics of my poor broken toe, there aren't pics of myself on here. If I were in a bar, you might know me by my long hair (once blue at the tips, but alas now sadly washed out due to lack of funds for re-colouring) or by my tattoos if they're showing. Oh, wait, those are physical. I dunno. My laugh? The fact that I'm probably drinking water? That I'm sitting in a corner that doesn't have a window or walkway or another table behind me, facing all the doors/entrances/exits? Probably the best way to identify me is this - I'm the one who isn't there. I don't go to bars.
Most blogs cover some sort of niche – personal, political, dating, culinary, etc. What topic, if any, would you like to address on your blog but doesn't fit into your niche? I don't have a niche, I don't think. I'll discuss any topic that crosses my fevered little brain. Aren't you lucky?
If you could manipulate the time space continuum and give as many as three pieces of advice to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give and to what age of you? 1 (any age, really, this one is ongoing): Don't be afraid to love freely - not everyone wants to use your love to hurt, use, or abuse you. There may even be one or two people in this old world who value, even treasure, what you give freely, and will return the favor in spades. 2 (to my middle-teens self): Don't give up on horseback riding just because you aren't your cousin who made the Olympics that one year...do what you love because you love it and quit worrying that you aren't good enough and so don't deserve it. This applies to more than riding, by the way. 3 (to my pre-teen self who was just beginning to identify and struggle with mental illness and its attendant issues): You can't help how you feel - but you can help what you do about those feelings. Remember that.
Who among your friends do you really wish had a blog because their stories, or perspective on something ought to be shared? Most of my friends have blogs...but of the ones who don't? Sir Richard. Hands down. He doesn't even have a computer, and I wish he did...he's a writer, and his stories are amazing, beautiful, intelligent, challenging, and entertaining as all get out.
If you were to take an e-cation (vacation from the trappings of our electronic world,) and assuming that employment obligations would allow it, how long of a break could you take? Umm...none. I live as much in the Blue Nowhere as I do in Mundania, and I'm happy here. What's "employment obligations"?
What would you miss the most, the least? If forced to forgo my beloved Blue Nowhere and the burg of Blogopolis...I'd miss my e-quaintances the most. Seriously, some morning y'all (and the Evil Genius) are what keep me going...
On September 11'th of this year, I attended a couple of parties and was somewhat conflicted by the fact that this ignoble anniversary shall pass with it being just another day in the eyes of many (and in some ways my own eyes as well.) Thoughts? September 11 IS just another day...it falls between September 10 and September 12. What makes it special or important is how we remember events that fell on one particular September 11...and we aren't relegated to one date for that. We carry the memory with us every day and may celebrate or mourn it as we see fit.
How high are your walls? They are high, and wide, and deep.
Who was the last person to scale them? Ah...now that I am not at liberty to share, but he didn't scale them, really...I opened the gate and welcomed him in.
What tools should would-be climbers have on their belt? Compassion, understanding, empathy, and a very large bottle of the liquor of their choice. Unless you're speaking literally, and then they should have hammers, carabiners (carabeeners??), chalk powder, water, rope, and whatever else a climber needs - I really don't know, as I only ever climbed trees...
The sexiest thing a man or a woman can say to you (or has said to you) is: Nothing I can repeat on a blog my MOTHER reads! One of the sweetest things, though, was when Someone said "There's no excuse for you - the Goddess doesn't need an excuse for excellence." I know!!
